Chery South Africa Expands Tiggo 4 Pro Line-Up with New Dual-Clutch Transmission Options

Chery South Africa has enhanced its popular Tiggo 4 Pro small crossover range by introducing two new dual-clutch transmission (DCT) derivatives. With this addition, the local line-up now boasts nine variants and four transmission options.

Despite the introduction of the DCT variants, the existing continuously variable transmission (CVT) models will continue to be available and are set to receive a “software update” soon. The Tiggo 4 Pro range also includes 5- and 6-speed manual transmissions, catering to a variety of driving preferences.

While Chery SA has not specified the number of gears in the new DCT, it is likely a 7-speed unit, similar to those in other Chery models. The new DCT options are paired exclusively with the turbocharged 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder engine, producing 108 kW and 210 Nm of torque. The Tiggo 4 Pro 1.5 LiT DCT is priced at R382,900, and the top-tier Tiggo 4 Pro 1.5T Elite DCT is available at R415,900.

Chery SA has yet to release official fuel consumption figures for the new powertrain but indicates that local testing suggests a potential saving of “close to 1.6 litres of fuel per 100 km,” depending on driving conditions and style.

The Tiggo 4 Pro, which is exclusively front-wheel drive, remains Chery SA’s best-selling model. In April 2024, it ranked fifth among South Africa’s best-selling passenger vehicles, with 976 registrations. This strong performance contributed to Chery SA’s record monthly sales of 2,009 units, securing the company the sixth position overall and fourth in the passenger vehicle segment.
